Housing Justice
Why Housing Justice Matters
We believe access to housing is a human right. Asiyah Centerโs Housing Justice Program ensures survivors of domestic violence including immigrants, refugees, and those facing housing instability, can access emergency shelter and long-term housing solutions.
Our shelter is staffed by women of color who understand the unique challenges faced by our clients, from Islamophobia to immigration status.
Lack of safe housing puts survivors at risk of returning to abusers. Housing is survival.
Our Impact & Outreach
Housing Placement Success: In 2024, Asiyah successfully facilitated permanent or transitional housing for 75% of the women and children in our care, helping them secure long-term housing.
Eviction Prevention: Our legal advocacy efforts have led to a 40% reduction in eviction notices for our clients, providing a crucial layer of protection against homelessness.
Collaborative Efforts: We work closely with local legal aid organizations, housing coalitions, and government entities, such as the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and the Office of Immigrant Affairs, to strengthen and expand our housing services.
