Advocacy & Civic Engagement

Why Advocacy & Civic Engagement Matters

The Civic and Advocacy Program at Asiyah Center is dedicated to empowering marginalized communities, women, and children affected by domestic violence, immigration status, and housing instability by advocating for their rights and engaging meaningfully in civic life.

Through grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and civic engagement initiatives, the program raises awareness of pressing social justice issues impacting immigrants, refugees, and survivors. By providing the necessary tools and resources, Asiyah equips individuals to become active participants in their communities and drive systemic change.

The program strengthens advocacy efforts through strategic collaboration with local government, coalition building, and faith-based engagement. By working with elected officials, policymakers, and government agencies, we ensure marginalized communities have a voice in local decision-making.

We also partner with immigrant advocacy groups, women’s rights organizations, housing justice networks, and faith-based institutions to build powerful coalitions and foster civic engagement. Through community-based coalitions, we train local leaders and activists to become advocates for systemic change within their own communities.

Our Impact & Outreach

In 2024, Asiyah organized 12 community action events, including rallies, protests, and town hall meetings, with over 500 individuals attended our civic education workshops, gaining knowledge on topics like voter registration, tenant rights, and how to engage in local government processes.

We successfully collaborated with 20+ advocacy organizations, including those focused on immigrant rights and gender justice, to advocate for stronger protections for marginalized communities.
